Water Reliability
I believe in the potential for increased reuse of potable water in order to assist with sustainability. Many communities recharge their groundwater with reclaimed water in order to allow the earth to be a natural filter.
In my previous career working with a water district in California, I learned about the Colorado River Compact and how the states along the Colorado River continually battle for allocation of this scarce resource. The Colorado River Compact, signed in 1922, is an agreement that allocates Colorado River water between the seven states in the Colorado River basin: Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming.
We are fortunate in Flagstaff to have our own water source and not rely on Colorado River water. However, we must manage our growth, converse the water we use and find new ways to recharge our water supply.
